IEE TECHNICAL SEMINAR ON:
"SECURE GSM AND BEYOND:
END TO END SECURITY FOR MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS"
Tuesday, 11th February 2003, IEE Savoy Place, London, UK
Organised by the IEE Professional Network on Communications Networks and Services
Mobile telecommunications such as GSM are now well established globally and users rely heavily on the convenient communications it provides. The level of security provided by GSM is superior to its predecessors and is more than adequate for the majority of users. However some users in areas of government, defence or business may require additional security over and above that provided within the GSM standards and by standard GSM equipment.
This seminar will consider the application of additional security to mobile communications, such as GSM terminals which provide end to end encryption for voice and data communications. The scope of the colloquium will also cover encryption over heterogeneous networks, user experiences and the views of network operators over which such encrypted services are operated. The scope of the seminar will also extend to consider the provision of security in public safety, 3G networks and beyond.
This event will update attendees on the current status of security in mobile networks, the availability and performance of terminals which can offer additional security and user scenarios. It will also provide the opportunity to discuss the technical and engineering challenges that remain. The one-day seminar on "Secure GSM and beyond" will be held on 11th February 2003, at IEE, Savoy Place, London. Areas to be covered will include:
